Scope and Content

File documents Norman Fellows’ thesis for the Leeds School of Architecture in Leeds, England, namely, ‘Untitled’ (sic).

The basic approach ran counter to the typical request from the college – e.g. “What kind of building do you want to design?” An entertainments building designed by Mike Webb for the site of the Empire Theatre, Leicester Square, London was taken as the starting point. The conclusion was that maximum emphasis should be placed on electronic technology. A building was therefore rejected and Webb’s thesis went into the Archigram Archive, not as an icon of the group, but as a result of the profession’s ingrained habit of not asking first of all, “Do you really need a building?” Material related to this file was produced between 1959 and 1972.

File contains a site plan and an aerial site photograph.
